Deacon Angelo Lombardo was born in Norman, Oklahoma while his parents attended the University of Oklahoma. He is the oldest of three children and has a rich multi-cultural background. His father is originally from Italy and his mother from Puerto Rico. He speaks english, spanish and a little italian.
Soon after his birth, he moved to South America and spend the next seventeen years of his life growing up in Venezuela. He graduated from high school in 1979 and came back to Norman to pursue a college education. He earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1983 and 1984 respectfully.
It was during his college years that he met Annie Ramirez, his wife of thirty years. Annie is also an engineer who worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation as an Engineering Manager. She recently retired to become Saint Joseph’s new Religious Education Director. They have four children – three girls and one boy. The three girls attended Marquette University in Milwaukee and earned degrees in the Health Sciences. Alicia is a Physician Assistant, Anna is a Speech Pathologist, and Maria is a Nurse. His son, Michael Angelo, is an artist who recently graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and is in the process of setting his studio practice in Kansas City.
Deacon Angelo joined Saint Joseph Parish in 1986. He has served the parish as a catechist and pastoral musician. Deacon Angelo is also a trained classical guitarist. He began taking lesson in 1974 and continues to play up to this day. He used his musical talent as a pastoral musician and the Choir Director for the Mass in Spanish at Saint Joseph for more than twenty years and enjoyed it every minute of it with his entire family of
musicians – Alicia is a violinist, Anna a pianist, Maria a flautist, Michael a percussionist and his wife Annie, the cheerleader and number one fan.
He was ordained a Permanent Deacon on October 18, 2013 - the Feast Day of Saint Luke. He is one of the founding members of the Hispanic Ministry Board, the Stanley Rother Hispanic Cultural Institute at Saint Joseph, catechist for the first year Confirmation Class and the Parish’s Coordinator of the San Juan Diego School for Catholic Lay Leaders. As part of his diaconal formation, he is also pursuing a degree in Pastoral Ministry through Newman University in Kansas, which he will complete in the Fall of 2014.
Deacon Angelo practices engineering and works for the City of Norman as the City’s Transportation Engineer. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Oklahoma, a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and its Missouri Valley Section, and a member of the Oklahoma Traffic Engineering Association.
