As you may have heard, Archbishop Coakley has asked me to be the new pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Oklahoma City.  With humility and trust, I am happy to serve the Archdiocese and go where I am needed.  I have loved serving at St. Joseph Parish for these last 8 years.  We have accomplished many things, pray together, and grown closer in our relationship with Jesus and His Church. Thank you for your faith and love for God.  Your faith has made me a better priest.  I will love you always and pray for you daily.  Pray for me as I prepare to move to Sacred Heart Parish. Pray for your new pastor, Fr. Jerome Krug.  He will serve you with joy and the love of Jesus. Jesus, we trust in you.

his Saturday we celebrated with our children who received Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time.  I ask you to say a special prayer for them.  Our First Communion is such a special moment in our faith.  Sadly, many of us forget the power of Jesus and the importance of the Eucharist as we grow older.  We need a revival of Eucharistic Love.  Jesus loves us so much that we choses to come to us in this Sacrament of Love.  His whole body, blood, soul and divinity is offered to us at every Mass.  Come to Jesus and receive this gift of the Eucharist.

Congratulations to our children and their families.  Pray for our parish that we too will grow closer to the heart of Jesus in the Eucharist.  Jesus, we trust in you.

As we celebrate the Easter Season, we ask the Lord the increase our joy.  We have many thing to pray about in our lives and in our world.  We pray for peace.  We pray for an increase in forgiveness and mercy.  We pray that many will find Jesus in His holy Catholic Church.  We pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood, especially from our parish community.  We pray that God will help us if we are suffering from grief, sadness, depression or anxiety.  We trust in the power of Jesus to heal us and help us to see that Joy is the only Way.  With Joy and Hope in the power of the Resurrection of Christ, we know where we are going.  Go to Jesus in your prayers.  Trust in Jesus.  Pray for our children receiving their First Holy Communion this coming Saturday.  God bless them and their families.

As we end this Octave of Easter, we celebrate this Sunday our devotion and need for Divine Mercy.  St. Faustina taught us about the desire of Jesus for all souls to increase their trust in His Divine Mercy.  This Sunday at 3pm, I invite you to join me and Fr. Grim in a Holy Hour for Mercy.  We will pray for our souls, for our Church, country and our world.  We pray that the Divine Mercy of Jesus will descend upon all people.  Jesus, we trust in you.

Today is Palm Sunday.  Each year on this Sunday we begin Holy Week, the holiest time of the Liturgical Year.  We begin with Palm Sunday celebrating the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem.  We meditate on the Passion of Jesus.  We look toward His Resurrection and the redemption of the world.  I want to invite you into a time of prayer and retreat this week.  Meditate on the Cross.  Pray for mercy and peace.  I also invite you to join us for the Triduum celebrations of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.  In these holy liturgies of the Church, the story of our redemption in Christ is celebrated.  Jesus, by your holy Cross and Resurrection, you have set us free.

The Sacrament of Confession or Reconciliation is the most avoided sacrament of the Church.  We are afraid of our sins.  We have convinced ourselves that we don’t need confession.  Some people even believe it is an outdated sacrament and not needed in today’s Church.  Some think, I am fine, my sin is not that bad.  This is all part of the plan of the Evil One.  The Evil One knows how powerful the Sacrament of Confession is for individuals and for the Church.  In this Sacrament, we experience the grace of Resurrection.  God saves our souls in confession.  God only loves us in the Sacrament of His Divine Mercy.  That is how I approach confession.  I am going to receive the Divine Mercy of Jesus.  When you go into confession, Jesus is pouring out mercy.  This is the same mercy that came from His wounded side on the Cross.  Come to Jesus.  Trust in Jesus.  Come to confession and do not be afraid.

Tememos a nuestros pecados. Ven a Jesús. Confía en Jesús. Ven a confesarte y no tengas miedo.

Where sin and the brokenness of the human condition naturally brings division and the inability to hear God, the Cross of Jesus brings all people together and opens the ears, minds and eyes of our hearts.  When we turn toward the Cross of Jesus, we are made whole.  When we turn to Jesus, we are one.

Prayer with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration is a wonderful way to stay close to the Lord and to receive His Love.  Why not spend time with Jesus in prayer?  Why not commit to an hour of Jesus in our Perpetual Adoration Chapel?  Come to Jesus, He will help you.  Jesus, we trust in you.

Ven a Jesús, Él te ayudará. Jesús, confiamos en ti.

As Lent continues, we move closer to the Cross and our meditation on the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus.  Our Lord told us in the scriptures that if we follow Him with our whole heart, the world would not accept us.  The world might hate us.  Lent is a time to turn away from the secular world and toward the Cross.  Jesus is the only Way, Truth and Life.  Walk toward the Cross of Jesus with trust, not away from it in fear.

Have you come to make a confession during the season of Lent?  Let me encourage you to examine your conscience and make a good confession sometime before Easter Sunday.  The Lord wants to forgive you, heal you and love you in this sacrament of mercy.

Not only does it [the Sacrament of Penance] free us from our sins but it also challenges us to have the same kind of compassion and forgiveness for those who sin against us.  We are liberated to be forgivers.  We obtain new insight into the words of the Prayer of St. Francis: "It is in pardoning that we are pardoned."

Jesus entrusted the ministry of reconciliation to the Church.  The Sacrament of Penance is God's gift to us so that any sin committed after Baptism can be forgiven.  In confession we have the opportunity to repent and recover the grace of friendship with God. It is a holy moment in which we place ourselves in his presence and honestly acknowledge our sins, especially mortal sins.  With absolution, we are reconciled to God and the Church. The Sacrament helps us stay close to the truth that we cannot live without God. "In him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28).

Lent is not a season of “giving up something”.  This is a time to find something.  We do make sacrificial offerings during Lent, but we do this so we will have a clearer vision of God.  We set things down so that we can pick up more prayer, more sacrifices and more opportunities to love and serve our neighbor.  What is keeping you from a greater life of prayer?  Why do you stay away from the Sacrament of Confession?  Is it pride?  Is it a disordered attachment to sin?  Is it fear?  The Lord will only love us, He will not condemn.  Lent is a season of learning to let Jesus love us and show us to power of the Cross.  We will be offering a Lenten Penance Rite on Thursday March 5th at 6:00pm in the Main Church.  Several priests will be available to hear your confessions and bring the mercy of Jesus.  I hope to see you there.  I hope to see you in prayer.  Jesus, we trust in you.

This Wednesday we celebrate begin the Solemn Season of Lent.  We always begin this season with Ash Wednesday.  The liturgy of Ash Wednesday tells us something important, we are dust and to dust we will return.  We might think that God is telling us that we are nothing.  In truth, God is inviting us into a great Trust.  If we do not trust in the merciful power of God, we are nothing.  We are lost.  Lent is a time to say, I do not prefer Sin.  I prefer the Cross of Jesus.  I prefer Mercy.  I prefer Heaven.  I invite you to come to one of the liturgies of Ash Wednesday.  I encourage you to live the spiritual disciplines of Lent; Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving.  I encourage you to make a good confession during the Lenten Season.  Come to the Stations of the Cross onf Fridays during Lent to meditate on the Passion and Death of Jesus.  We should consider making a sacrifice for Lent so we can detach from the world and focus more on the Will of God.  Don’t be afraid to turn from sin and embrace the love of Jesus.  God bless you.

Pope Leo said this recently to a group of Young Adults of the Church; consider how St. Andrew went immediately to tell his brother St. Peter that he had found the Messiah.  He did not hesitate and had great zeal in his gratitude to God.  The Pope said St. Andrew was, and all of us must be, “moved by the same missionary zeal to share with those around you the joy that you have received from a genuine encounter with the Lord”.  Why are we afraid to share our faith in Jesus?  Jesus wants to be worshipped and known.  Jesus calls us friends.  Be friends with Jesus.  He is available.  He listens to us.  He loves us infinitely.  Jesus, we trust in you.

Father Irwin

 Padre Irwin

At the SEEK conference in January, Pope Leo asked the young people, what do you seek?  He answered saying, we must prefer Jesus in all things.  Our purpose is found in the person of Jesus Christ.  In the scriptures, it was often not enough for people to just be told about Jesus.  They went to find Him, to talk to Him, to be healed by Him and to know Him.  This must be true for us.  We need to go and encounter Jesus.  We do this in a particular way at the Mass and in the Eucharist.  Jesus is waiting to truly meet you.  Receive Jesus in the Eucharist!  Pray with Jesus in Adoration!  Don’t be satisfied with just hearing about Jesus.  Get to know Him personally.  Jesus is the way to true peace.

The Christian home is the first place where children consider the power of God and His love.  Many priests and religious say that they first learned to listen to God when praying at home with their families.  Parents, it is so important for you to encourage your children to consider the priesthood or consecrated life.  I can testify to the truth, being a priest is a wonderful life.  Priests are statistically the happiest individuals in the world.  We find great interior peace in serving the people of God.  Please parents, pray for your children and pray that we receive more religious vocations from our parish of St. Joseph in Norman, OK.  Our children need to be encouraged in making real commitments to God and His Church.  Pray with me that we have many vocations from St. Joseph Parish.

Is prayer an ordinary part of your life?  Is prayer normal, or is it something foreign to you?  Today I want to encourage you to consider your life of prayer.  Prayer is an impulse of the heart toward the God who created us and loves us.  Jesus invites us to come to Him and He will give us rest.  Prayer is an intimate encounter of love with God that helps us to sustain a relationship with Him.  Prayer is never something we do alone, even when there is no one in the room.  It is always an encounter with the living God.  Jesus is alive and we need to know Him.  Make a commitment to daily prayer.  I hope to see you in the adoration chapel.  Pray together as a family.  Take a walk and pray the rosary.  Use technology like the Hallow App.  Let’s pray for each other.  God bless you.

Comprométete a orar a diario. Espero verte en la capilla de adoración. Oren juntos en familia. Salgan a caminar y recen el rosario. Utilicen la tecnología, como la aplicación Hallow. Oremos los unos por los otros. Que Dios los bendiga.

Jesus comes to the waters to be baptized.  He did not need baptism.  The reason He came to be baptized was to fulfill the prophecy of John when he said, “Prepare the Way for the Lord”.  Jesus sanctifies the waters of baptism for us.  He is baptized not for Himself, but for us.  We need Jesus to show us the way to the life-giving waters of baptism.  Baptism is where we begin our pilgrimage to the heavenly Father.  Baptism washes away original sin and every sin of our life.  Baptism is our spiritual adoption as Sons and Daughters of the heavenly Father.  In the Sacrament of Baptism, God claims us forever.  Today we give thanks for this great sacrament of our salvation where Jesus washes away our sin and gives us a place in the kingdom.

Pray for an increase in conversions to the Catholic Faith and for all our OCIA members at St. Joseph Parish.

One way to understand this great Solemnity of the Epiphany, is to understand the meaning of the word.  In the Greek, Epiphany can mean, “to shine upon”.  For us, the light of Christ is shining upon the world.  This light brings salvation to every soul.  The Epiphany of our Lord is also an invitation to every believer.  We must be lights in the world.  When people meet us, they should meet Jesus.  People said this about Mother Theresa.  She was very ordinary in her appearance and her day-to-day work.  At the same time, she radiated the love of Jesus.  We need to radiate the Love of Jesus to the world.  On this great Feast of the Epiphany, may the light of Christ shine in your hearts.

Pray for an increase in Vocations to the Priesthood this week.  God bless you all!

On behalf of Fr. Grim, myself and our parish staff, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas.  We hope your Christmas Eve and Day were full of Joy.  Know of our prayers for all our families at St. Joseph parish.  We pray for all who are most in need of prayers, of peace in their hearts and of knowing Jesus, our Lord.  Jesus is born, He has come into the world, He is the Lamb of God and offers His life for us.  We turn to Bethlehem this Sunday after Christmas Day.  Traditionally, on this Sunday, we ask for the prayers of the Holy Family; Jesus, Mary and Joseph.  The faith and love of Mary and Joseph are great examples of our lives.  We need to trust in the will of God.  Our plans are good, the plan of God for us is better.  Jesus, help us to trust you, to serve you and to encounter your mercy.  Don’t take down your Christmas Trees!  We have a whole Christmas season to celebrate.  Jesus is here, He is with us, the Messiah has come to save the world.  Come celebrate mass with us on January 1, the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God, a Holy Day of Obligation.  We look forward to seeing you.

Merry Christmas!  Happy New Year!

¡Feliz Navidad!

Esperamos verlos.

¡Feliz Navidad! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
